(may. 1904, Hamburgo, Alemania–20 dic. 1983, Londres, Inglaterra).

Fotógrafo británico de origen alemán. En 1929 trabajó en el estudio de Man Ray en París. Regresó a Inglaterra en 1931 y se dedicó al reportaje fotográfico, a retratar trabajadores industriales ingleses en la década de 1930, y a cubrir el frente civil durante la segunda guerra mundial. Su obra revela la influencia de Eugène Atget, Brassaï y Henri Cartier-Bresson. Es conocido por sus fotografías de la vida británica, y especialmente por sus originales desnudos; ubicaba su cámara con gran angular muy cerca del cuerpo, ocasionando un efecto deformador que convertía al cuerpo humano en una serie de diseños abstractos.
